05/02/19 – John 2:1-25; Psalm 103:1-22; Proverbs 14:17-19

John 223 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.  24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.

Did you find it interesting that v.23 states that the people believed in his name and, yet, in v.24 we read that Jesus would not “entrust himself” to them?

A key to understanding this apparent contradiction is also  found in v.23.  In this case the people believed because they saw miracles – not because they understood who Jesus was nor His mission.

True belief requires faith in the mission and the promises Jesus  describes — not just blind allegiance to the performer of “signs.”
