2 Chronicles 25
2 Chronicles 26
2 Chronicles 27
2 Chronicles 25: 14 When Amaziah returned from slaughtering the Edomites, he brought back the gods of the people of Seir. He set them up as his own gods, bowed down to them and burned sacrifices to them.
2 Chronicles 26: 15 In Jerusalem he made devices invented for use on the towers and on the corner defenses so that soldiers could shoot arrows and hurl large stones from the walls. His fame spread far and wide, for he was greatly helped until he became powerful. 16 But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God, and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.
I see a strong warning to believers today when I read these passages. Amaziah and Uzziah were both blessed by the Lord with victories and talents. But did you note that it was when they were successful that they turned from the Lord? Scripture even states that it was Uzziah’s pride that lead to his downfall.
The warning – do not only turn to the Lord when you are experiencing trials. Remain in Him when all is going well and you are tempted to think “Look what I have accomplished!”
