02/05/19 – Matt 24:1-28; Psalms 29:1-11; Proverbs 7:6-23
Psalm 29: 1 Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
These opening two verses use the word “Ascribe.” When you delve into the meaning of this word you can see that these verses are just “setting the stage” for the praise David offers for the magnificence of the Lord (Yahweh) in the remainder of this Psalm.
Ascribe literally means “to give” but in Hebrew it also implies to “give to the original source.” The Lord is the source, the origin, the creator, the Alpha and the Omega of all of the examples David uses in his praise.
