03/05/19 – Mark 12:18-37, Psalm 48:1-14; Proverbs 10:26

Combining today’s reading from Mark with yesterday’s reading we, again, see the combining of the “sects” of the leadership of the Jews to try to entrap and remove Jesus from their midst.

Mark 12: 1Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words.

Mark 12:  18 Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question.

Mark 12: 28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

And with all of this political pressure, what was the people’s response?

Mark: 12: 37 David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?” The large crowd listened to him with delight.

I think we need to always keep in mind that while we certainly need to understand the basics we do not be an “expert” in the meaning of each inspired Word of God – our  mission is to “invite” and the Lord will add to His kingd0m.

Trying to live life as a Kingdom dweller is not a new idea, it’s not trendy or innovative, not over the top emotional. God’s will for us is pretty simple, in fact, to love Him and love everyone around us. I have to ask myself what I did today to show God how much I love Him? The widow and her mites is a good example for us all. She was not supporting a corrupt religious group but rather showing God how much she loved and trusted him.
