04/02/19 – Luke 9:51-10:12; Psalm 74:1-23; Proverbs 12:11

Sometimes it takes only a single word to describe the intensity that Jesus applied to fulfilling His mission of providing a means of salvation to all peoples.

Luke 9:51   As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.

Did you note the adverb that speaks volume?  It is “resolutely” (steadfastly in some translations.)  The Greek word is sterizo and per Strong’s Concordance common uses include:  (a) I fix firmly, direct myself towards, (b) generally met: I buttress, prop, support; I strengthen, establish.

This one word tells us that Jesus knew his fate and, yet, would not be deterred in any way from fulfilling His Father’s will.   And we are blessed …

The word that comes to mind for me concerning Jesus focus is single mindedness. A few lines below verse 51 Jesus deals with discipleship. Jesus said, “Follow Me” and each person had a excuse as to why it wasn’t convenient for the moment. His warning, anyone who chooses the path and then has any regret is not fit for the kingdom.
