1/10/2018 Job Chapters 24-28

I find these chapters an interesting continuation of the debate & discussion between Job and his friends. Interestingly, in Chapter 25 Bidad refers to the feebleness of mankind.  Then throughout Chapters 26-28 Job maintains his faith and refers to the awesome power of God.  In Chapter 28 Job ends with a discussion of “wisdom” and after some beautifully worded descriptions summarizes his answer very succinctly in Job 28:28:

28 And he said to the human race,
“The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom,
and to shun evil is understanding.

As we continue our walk through scripture it will be interesting to see how many times the expression “fear of the Lord” is used.  Keep in mind that in Strong’s Concordance the Hebrew word is translated “fear (of God), respect, reverence, piety.”

I still think we see Job battling internally with what he knows about God and how God’s highest creation turned out. God made man in his image but man chose not to live up to that image but rather follow his baser instincts. Job always circles back to the truth of God’s nature and the knowledge that all things will be made right in the end. Meanwhile, the mind goes round and round trying to order a chaotic world.
