1/6/2018 Job Chapters 10-13

As we read these passages we see Job’s third friend Zophar make the strongest statements that Job needs to confess his sins and be forgiven.  But as opposed to this “bad” advice in vv, 7-9 we also hear Zophar praise God with language similar to what we will hear later in Job.  These words are a reminder to us of the magnificence of God.

Can you fathom the mysteries of God?
Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do?
They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know?
Their measure is longer than the earth
    and wider than the sea

As I listen to this conversation between friends, ,Job and Zophar, I am convinced that Job speaks to God with whom he has a very close relationship. God does not require that man be perfect before he calls him a friend. I do not believe Job would dare address God as he did unless he felt he was in relationship with the Father. Religious spewing from Zophar was not helpful to Job but Job’s rant to the Father was bringing him closer to a better understanding. The conversation continues…
