Acts 10

The idea that Gentiles would have access to salvation was going to be a very hard pill for Jewish be a very hard pill for Jewish Christians to shallow!! It is going to take an angel, a vision with the Lord speaking, the Spirit, and a display of power like that of Pentecost to convince the Christian Jewish community that the Gentiles were subject to God’s call into the Kingdom. That the gospel was truly for all mankind – Peter said this very thing (he just didn’t realize it) when he proclaimed by the Spirit: Acts 2:39 “The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off — for all whom the Lord our God will call” There is one other element that had to be in plac andthat was Cornelius! Whoever was going to be the first Gentile convert they needed to be acceptable to the Jewish community – a person who acted more Jewish than many of the heathen Gentiles, which the Jews found so repulsive. Cornelius fit the bill and so he would be the one to usher in a whole new era for the Lord’s church! What took place in this chapter changed everything!

Artie, you make a great point on how much it took to convince the Jews. Maybe that is why the Lord sent the sheet down 3 times for Peter!! (Once was not enough for such a revolutionary change. )
