Hebrews 6

The Hebrew writer makes it very clear – we can lose our salvation if we we become lazy and do not remain faithful to our calling! “We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. In the past these people had invested in their spiritual walk and faithfully served, but the writer of Hebrews was afraid that they were in danger of becoming lazy and thus in danger of losing their salvation!

This is a passage I often discuss with my “Baptist” relatives who believe in the “once saved, always saved” premise. They usually just stutter a bit on the fact that “well then, the person must not have really believed.” But I do not think the language can be any clearer in English or Greek – we can forfeit our salvation if we do become lazy.

I am also always very encouraged by the promises we have in verses 19-20!
