Mark 11

In this chapter we find Jesus showing a side of Himself we have not seen, He overturns tables, drives out people in the temple courtyard, and curses a fig tree. What do you think this is all about?

For me the clearing of the temple has always been the easier of the two to understand – Jesus was expressing what we would call “righteous indignation” at what had become of His Holy temple. Instead of praise and worship it had become a place of business (& corrupt business at that..).

I have heard the teaching that the fig tree was “with leaves” and should have had figs but did not. So, like the nation of Israel the tree was “claiming” to offer what it was not producing. If this is true the cursing of the tree is an allegory. This may tie into the following discussion if faith, as well.
