Mark 7

“These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” This charge that Jesus made was true of many in Israel; they were religious but not faithful. This charge would be true of many today! Mankind is great at worshiping, but when they are called upon to change their hearts & lives to conform to the God they worship, not so much! The Jews in Jesus’ day found comfort and security in following a system – where they were judged not by their heart, but how well they followed the system. God has laid out how we are to respond to Him & if we love Him we will strive to conform to His will, but if our hearts are not being molded into His nature … it is all in vain! What do you think?

I think you are spot on about our world then as well as now. Society is very religious because it satisfies a” feeling ” but few live with the Spirit of Christ abiding in them, allowing Him to do His work of changing them, molding them, sanctifying them in the process. Do we not love Him enough or are we not plugged into the power sources He provides us? I don’t know the answer but I often wonder if this plays a part in the fact that many of our children have walked away or at least are indifferent to any relationship to God.
